Retrospect: World Expo 2010

In the summer of 2010, beside my visit to Japan I spend most of my summer in my hometown shanghai. Shanghai was host for the World Expo that year and the city was just pack with people. It was announced during 2002 that Shanghai won the host city for the Expo, so its been nearly 8 years in the making. According to the stats more then 74 million people visited during the entire Expo. Countries from all around the world came to show and share their culture and history.  The theme for the expo was to build a better world for tomorrow, in which lot of countries showed off their advancement in technology in the field of agriculture and medicine.

Little info from Wiki

Expo 2010 Shanghai China was held on both banks of the Huangpu River in the city of Shanghai, China, from 1 May to 31 October 2010. It was a major World Expo in the tradition of international fairs and expositions, the first since 1992. The theme of the exposition was "Better City – Better Life" and signifies Shanghai's new status in the 21st century as the "next great world city". The Expo emblem features the Chinese character ('world', Chinese "shì") modified to represent three people together with the 2010 date. It had the largest number of countries participating and was the most expensive Expo in the history of the world's fairs.

The whole expo had this futuristic vibe to it.

We didn't get to visit all the pavilions around the expo since the waiting time for one was about four to five hours. Our first Pavilion was the Hungary Pavilion.

Inside the pavilion it was filled with these wooden structures. It feel like you inside large maze. The dominate of natural light really define the meaning of nature and how everything just come together.

Talk about aliens....this was robot version of the Expo Mascot.

This was first we thing saw when we walked in. A huge display on the wall showing what it seem a live version of an ancient painting.

The Scroll is Zhang Zeduan's Song Dynasty masterpiece Along the River During the Qingming Festival and re-adapted as a large-scale 3D animation. The animation is projected onto a massive screen which is 128 metres long and 6.5 metres high and features all of the original painting's 1068 figures as well as boats, vehicles and animals. All the characters move within the landscape and perform their everyday tasks. The animation also features a 2-minute long night scene.
